Summer
Summertime is a great time of the year to stay at Dorset House Backpackers Hostel. The days are long, meaning you can spend a great deal of time exploring Christchurch and its surrounds. Summer is a great time to come and find out why Christchurch is called the ‘Garden City’. There are numerous parks and gardens to explore! Find yourself enchanted by the beauty of the Botanic Gardens; enjoy a bike ride through Hagley Park or a picnic at Halswell Quarry. The Gondola offers you a unique view of the Canterbury Plains and Christchurch as you ride to the top of Christchurch’s famous, now extinct volcano.
If you enjoy sand, sea and sun, you can’t go wrong with the beaches,
which are along to the east of Christchurch. Taylors Mistake and
Sumner Beach offer great swimming and surfing. Go for a walk and enjoy
a coffee at the New Brighton Pier. If you enjoy a relaxing and
peaceful time, why not try punting down the Avon River, winding
serenely alongside the Botanic Gardens and Hagley Park. Don’t forget
to have a look in at Christchurch’s arts centre for your cultural,
artistic fix. If you feel the need to exercise your adrenalin glands
then there is always the option of skydiving or paragliding.
